A superb Hemen 5 string female tanpura from the late Hemen Sen. Tanpuras from Hemen's shop are legendary in the classical music world, known for their rich tone and wonderful feel. This is a more unusual 5 string female tanpura, as opposed to the typical 4 string. The 5th string allows for more creative tunings, such as incorporating an extra note (often nishad). It was commissioned from Hemen by the Ali Akbar College some time in the 1970s.
