  Beautiful instrument, exceptional service

I bought this sitar as a graduation present for my son. It was a recommended brand in the ideal price range. Musician's Mall's website was easy to navigate, offered clear information, and gave much-appreciated additional options, like the hard case and sitar-specific pickup. We were kept informed in every step of the purchase process; we were able to track our shipment, and it arrived impeccably packed and in perfect condition. I am impressed by Musician's Mall's professionalism from beginning to end.

  Good sitar

First of all, I would like to rate Musicians Mall (MM) a 5* on their service and friendly customer service. Now to review the KL #3: It's a fine sitar. It holds the tuning fairly well, the jawari is well done. The materials and workmanship are quite good. That said, one must be prepared to anticipate and learn about sitars. These are made the traditional way. So, the sitar I hold today is made with the same technology as the sitar's of Mia Tansen's time - save the modern steel/bronze strings. The tuning pegs were chalked by MM and are quite free to move, but one must set expectations properly. One cannot expect it to work like a fine swiss machine or anything. Over time, the Sitar strings WILL need changing, that's for ANY sitar or string instrument. The strings just get tired, and may indeed snap or sound dull. Esp. the baz string will need to be replaced to improve the sound. Another important note: Tuning the sitar is not difficult, but it does take some time. If you are well versed in the notation of indian classical music, it's not too hard. That said, *any sitar* has movable frets, and you will need to occasionally nudge one or other to get the right note. That's not a deficiency, it's a feature. All in all, happy with the purchase, and no regrets getting this sitar.

  Great student sitar

I purchased the KanailLal #3 to get back my chops on the sitar after a decade long lay off .I wanted a well constructed instrument without all the frills and ornate carving but that was top notch in construction performance and sound. This Sitar answered all my needs and I would highly recommend it for a serious student of classical Indian Music. A special shout out to Michael Stampinato for selecting and prepping the instrument. It arrived at my home in excellent condition and was actually still in tune!!
